Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS)

The Group on Women in Medicine and Science Leadership Awards recognize outstanding individual and organizational contributions to advancing women leaders in academic medicine and science. Since the first award in 1995, these prestigious awards have recognized over 30 individuals and organizations. The GWIMS awards may not always be given every year.

The GWIMS Steering Committee strongly encourages nominations of leaders and programs of significant impact. Any member of the academic medicine community may nominate individuals and/or organizations for the award. Nominees that were submitted but not awarded from previous years remain eligible (though previous nominees are not automatically reconsidered each year).

Nominees for the GWIMS Leadership Award should be individuals (women or men) or institutions (e.g. medical schools, teaching hospitals, academic societies, associations, departments, committees, or Women in Medicine and Science programs) that advance the role of women in academic medicine and science. The committee will consider the extent of

Worker Safety in Hospitals | Occupational Safety and Health Administration

Did you know that a hospital is one of the most hazardous places to work? In 2011, U.S. hospitals recorded 253,700 work-related injuries and illnesses, a rate of 6.8 work-related injuries and illnesses for every 100 full-time employees. This is almost twice the rate for private industry as a whole.

OSHA created a suite of resources to help hospitals assess workplace safety needs, implement safety and health management systems, and enhance their safe patient handling programs. Preventing worker injuries not only helps workers—it also helps patients and will save resources for hospitals. Download the overview and explore the links below to learn more about the resources available.
